Update on Pennsylvania nuke fire: There was also an explosion….

I suspected that the initial press report I read on the fire at the Beaver Valley nuclear power plant might have been just a rewrite of a FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. press release. Here’s what was left out, according to the Event Report at the NRC website today:

At 1828 (EST), an Unusual Event was declared when fire brigade reports indications that an explosion and fire had occurred in a cable tray in the Unit 1 Turbine Mezzanine.
