North Anna confirms that earthquake exceeded design standards

In an update to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the North Anna nuclear plant confirmed that the August 23 earthquake exceeded the design standards for the plant: “…the Central Virginia earthquake of 8/23/2011 exceeded the spectral accelerations for the Operational Basis Earthquake (OBE) and [Design Basis Earthquake] DBE of North Anna Plant.

Time to reassess earthquake design standards?
